Conservatism 2.0

It’s only been one short week since the election, and there has been much behind the scenes movement on both sides of the political spectrum. The left, obviously, is overjoyed to reclaim the White House. They are full steam ahead on a full slate of liberal agenda items, including overturning many of Bush’s Executive Orders. This is no surprise, but hardly the clarion call of a “righteous wind” blowing through Washington.

The conservatives, on the other hand, are looking for ways to best put forth their ideas and ideals, including pushing for more conservative leadership in the House. There have been a lot of charges that the right wingers are engaging in turf battles. And that may be true. The result, however, is that many new conservative movements are cropping up, and they are using the Web 2.0 tools that have been so effective for the left (and especially the Obama campaign). One such effort is the #dontgo movement. As this article explains, #dontgo aims to more effectively use emerging (and emergent) social media tools to communicate their message at the grassroots level. It is how the political organization game is going to be played from now on, and it’s a relief to see that so many conservatives are embracing the idea.
